Fantasy Football DvP Mismatch Report for Week 4: Defenses to Target or Avoid

Tipp Major highlights three defense vs. position matchups to target or avoid in fantasy football for Week 4.

Published Updated

When you think matchup-proof in fantasy football, who comes to mind these days? Amon-Ra St. Brown? Maybe Brock Bowers?

Let’s talk about Bowers for a second. Plenty of people were concerned he might be on a pitch count in his season debut. Well, so much for that.

Bowers played 79% of the snaps and went for 116 yards and a touchdown. He may not be 100%, but he looks pretty damn close. If this is Bowers working his way back, imagine what’s coming when he’s fully unleashed.

But not everybody is matchup-proof.

Three weeks in, we’ve knocked off the cobwebs, and team tendencies are starting to show. Defenses are telling us where they can be attacked and which matchups we might want absolutely nothing to do with.

Let’s find them.

Week 4 Fantasy Football DvP Matchups To Target

Arizona Cardinals WR Michael Wilson vs. New York Giants

You knew failure was imminent when Jacoby Brissett attempted fewer than 30 passes in Week 2, leading to fewer than 10 points.

So, when Arizona fell behind in Week 3, Brissett went back to what works: looking early and often for his No. 1 WR, Michael Wilson.

Going back to last season, Wilson has now seen double-digit targets in six of his last 11 games with Brissett at QB. That’s starting to look less like a hot streak and more like a trend.

Who said drop Marvin Harrison Jr.?

Start Wilson with confidence in Week 4. The Giants are allowing one receiving TD and 33.7 PPR points per game to WRs.

Arizona ranks third in the NFL in time of possession, and somebody has to make those tough, chain-moving catches.

Brissett has already shown us who he trusts at WR.

Carolina Panthers TE Darren Waller vs. Detroit Lions

Continuing to pick on the Lions and their pass defense is the play this early in the season. Unless it’s a Jets TE, right? Because it’s been a long time since the Jets had a fantasy-relevant TE.

Two touchdowns later, the Lions have now given up six TDs to TEs through three weeks.

Now Darren Waller gets his shot in primetime. Who knew!

Waller is coming off an eight-target game, and his snap percentage has increased every week. Targets are still the question, but the TE position has been a thorn in the side of this Lions defense. Panthers HC Dave Canales should take advantage of that this week.

Canales expressed excitement when the Panthers added Waller to the roster, calling him “big and fast.” Now he might be an addition to your fantasy lineup that pays massive dividends.

In a pinch at TE? Check those waivers. Waller is still less than 50% rostered according to Sleeper.

Avoid This DvP Matchup in Fantasy Football Week 4

Dallas Cowboys RB Javonte Williams vs. Houston Texans

One team I’m NOT picking on is the 0-3 Texans and that rush defense.

Don’t let that record fool you when it comes to stopping the run. Javonte Williams is up next.

Through three games, Houston has faced James Cook, Chase Brown, and Jonathan Taylor. Not exactly a cupcake schedule. The result? ZERO rushing TDs allowed to RBs and the fewest PPR points allowed to the position.

You can attack the Texans in other places, but this run defense? Nah, I’m good.

Three pretty damn good RBs have already tried. Houston hasn’t blinked.

Williams has stayed fantasy-relevant through the passing game the last two weeks, but even that escape hatch could be closed. Houston is allowing just 11.3 receiving yards per game to RBs.

Expect more of the same deep in the heart of Texas Sunday.
